How many calories does one yoga class burn?

Health professionals' have estimated between 400-1200 calories are burned per class.

How many times a week should I practice?

Yoga should be practiced a minimum of 3 to 4 times per week if possible for maximum benefits. It’s especially beneficial to practice yoga as much as you can as a beginner. This will help your muscles develop muscle memory. Each time a class is taken muscles are built and conditioned and your skeletal structure is properly aligned.

Can I practice if I have a health condition?

Many health conditions have been improved through regular yoga practice. It is not uncommon for many ailments to be cured all together. In fact, some doctors now prescribe yoga as a form of physical therapy. Some yogi’s say that if a health condition is present, yoga should be done everyday until the condition has cleared. Remember yoga heals and strengthens the body and it’s systems, and is especially beneficial to the immune system.

What if I'm not very flexible, can I still do the yoga?

Most people are inflexible or become inflexible over time. Muscles and joints stiffen from under use, which often occurs as we age. Many jobs require long hours of sitting or bending. This can compress and disfigure the spine while causing muscles to conform to this incorrect alignment. Yoga helps to alleviate stiffness and creates flexibility, keeping the spine supple and in correct alignment. If you are not flexible, that’s more reason to begin yoga practice.

Why is the practice room heated up so much?

The heat makes muscles pliable which allows them for a deeper, safer, gentler stretching. It also detoxifies the body encouraging muscles to release metabolic waste, which leave the body through sweat. The heat thins the blood, increasing the heart rate for an excellent cardiovascular workout. It also builds strength by putting muscle tissue in an optimal state for reorganization, and reorganizes lipids (fat) in the muscular structure. In India, where yoga originated, it is very hot and humid. We try to mirror those same conditions here.

How hot does the practice room really get?

The temperature is 105 and humidity 60%. This combination is ideal to promote flexibility and puts the body at an optimal state to receive the maximum benefits from the yoga. The sweat not only quickly and efficiently detoxifies the body, but also keeps the body from overheating.

How long will it take before I see results?

It does not take long to see the results of yoga. I have seen many, many bodies transform in my time teaching. Depending on the frequency of classes, results occur in as little as 2 weeks, with a regular practice of 4 classes per week. Remember every body is different and unique, as are the results.

What should I expect for my first class?

Many find their first couple classes to be the most challenging. Often this is because it’s new and unfamiliar. You will find that you will learn the postures quickly and become familiar with what to expect. Come with no expectations, just a light heart, open mind, and a well-hydrated body. Most students feel amazingly detoxified and relaxed after their first class.
